
Newmai News Network Imphal | Marc 2 Eight people, including two women, were injured when unidentified people lobbed and exploded a powerful bomb at the residence of a Naga People’s Front (NPF) candidate in Imphal on Thursday. A police official said the explosion took place at the Langol residence of NPF candidate K Leisiyo under Lamphel Police Station of Imphal West district around 5:15 pm. Leisiyo is contesting the ensuing state assembly polls from Phungyar constituency of Kamjong district (previously Ukhrul district). The injured were rushed to Shija Hospital, Langol following the incident. Among them, one was critically injured. Langol is located on the outskirts of Imphal. A spot inquiry was going on under the supervision of Lamphel police in-charge, the official said, adding the details of blast were awaited. No group has claimed responsibility so far. Meanwhile, the Chandel district administration has clamped curfew along Indo-Myanmar border from 5:30 pm to 5:30 am every day till March 11. The District Magistrate in the order said the curfew has started with immediate effect. Pre-poll violent incidents were also reported from different places in Imphal triggering protests. Some unidentified people opened fire on a polling station at Wangkhei Angom Leikai today around 4:30 am.
