Dr Shurhozelie writes to NPCC President SI Jamir, says comments were Imchen’s personal views

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 29 (MExN): Naga Peoples Front President Dr Shurhozelie has written to the President of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee SI Jamir with regard to the NPCC’s statement that the CLP would pull out of the Joint Legislature Forum (JLF) due to statements made by the Home Minister of Nagaland.

The NPF President has extended sincere regret of the NPF to the CLP if the statement of the Home Minister had hurt the sentiments of the Congress party. The NPF President clarified that the “opinions expressed by him are his personal views”. While expressing regret, the NPF appealed to the CLP to continue to strengthen the JLF and pursue the unfinished tasks which “we have collectively set for the sake of the people”.

The NPF President in the letter to his counterpart pointed out to the steps taken by all sixty Members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly in forming the JLF and termed this as a major landmark in the history of the Naga political movement.

“The initiatives of the JLF have been well appreciated by all sections of the society, and collectively, we have set the highest standards of forging unity and understanding in the greater interest of our people. We understand that, as elected leaders willing to make sacrifices for the cause of peace and political solution, the Indo-Naga political issue remains at the top of our agenda”, Dr Shurhozelie stated.

The letter also mentioned that in the past, the NPF as a political party has also extended its appreciation to all Members of the JLF, particularly to the Opposition benches in formation of the JLF and its initiatives.

The NPF President also stated that the “several initiatives which we have taken up together have resulted in creating a favourable condition for the peace process to move in the right direction”.

The NPF President encouraged that “we should continue to make every possible effort to pursue with the Government of India to bring early solution in order to realize lasting peace”. Stating that the expectations of the people are upon the legislators, and at this crucial juncture, the “oneness and unity of the JLF must not be destroyed after having taken up so many collective initiatives”.

The letter also stated that in any political party that is functioning under a spirit of internal democracy, “expression of personal opinions and practice of free speech, that may at times not be in line with the stand of the party do take place”.
