With the induction of Awangbou Newmai as cabinet minister on Friday, the Naga People's Front (NPF) has two ministers now in the BJP led Manipur government.
Awangbou Newmai, the president of the Manipur State unit of the NPF, was sworn in by Manipur Governor Dr Najma Heptulla this afternoon at Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
NPF has four MLAs supporting the BJP led government in Manipur. Out of these four legislators, L Dikho and Awangbou are ministers while K Leishiyo is the Advisor to the Chief Minister of Manipur.
It may be mentioned that Manipur Forest minister Th Shyamkumar was disqualified under the Anti-Defection Law some time ago. With that development, the necessity to induct a minister cropped up.
Meanwhile, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Central Headquarters based in Kohima congratulated Awangbou Newmai MLA for being inducted as Cabinet minister under Chief Minister Biren Singh in the State of Manipur.
"The party hopes that Mr. Awangbou will perform his duties with all fairness for the upliftment of the down trodden people," said the congratulatory note of the NPF, adding, "The party also appends its appreciation to the BJP leadership for keeping its assurance to accommodate the NPF legislators in the ministry in Manipur".
