NPF slams ‘flying visits’, culture of high command

DIMAPUR, MARCH 28 (MExN): The ruling Naga Peoples Front (NPF) has responded to what it termed as the “wild and baseless allegations of the BJP” which appeared in sections of the press and media on 27th March, 2012. “The unsubstantiated statements of the BJP, made by its north-east in-charge, are misleading and completely inaccurate as they have no justifications whatsoever”, stated a press note issued by the NPF Press & Media Bureau.

The NPF pointed out that the statements in fact highlighted the culture of national parties whose central leaders simply come on a flying visit and make wild allegations against one and all and fly out within hours without understanding any ground realities at the grass root level. The NPF stated that it had been stressing on this aspect, as leaders of national parties are cut off from the realities in the far corners of the country as they practice the culture of high command politics from distant and disconnected Delhi.

“Naga people have rejected such alien culture and have placed their confidence in the regional party because it is only through a regional party that the unique problems and important issues that concern the people can be addressed”, the press note stated while reminding once again that for the NPF, the real high command are the citizens of the State and “we do not depend on the authority of high commands in Delhi to run the affairs of Nagaland”.

Pointing out that there should “be basis and concrete evidence for accusing others or else the leaders making such statements are simply making a fool of themselves”, the NPF stated that either the BJP leadership is unaware of the massive progress and development that is taking place in Nagaland under the DAN Government or the leaders who fly in for a few hours are misled by their local leaders.

The NPF claimed that perhaps the local leaders are also being misused by other political parties for cheap political gains and are jealous of the DAN Government’s successful achievements. The NPF stated that it was rejecting the stand of the BJP’s statements and observed that a responsible national party should speak and act in a responsible manner that is convincing and not merely political hype without any factual basis.

“If indeed the BJP cared for the people of Nagaland or consider themselves as protectors of democracy, what did the BJP do when President’s rule was undemocratically imposed upon the Naga people in 2008? If their central leaders care for the Naga people, they should travel to all corners of the State and try to understand the issues that concern the Nagas. Merely flying in for a few hours and making bombastic statements has no meaning and the people will not be convinced in any manner”.

The NPF also stated that only recently, the BJP leaders were appreciative of the DAN Government’s initiatives, programmes and policies but suddenly they seems to have changed their stand. “Such an approach exposes their own standing and reveals that that are cut off from the people”.
