Dimapur, November 19 (MExN): In response to MLA Tiameren’s tirade in the local media recently, the NPF today countered the criticism by issuing a response highlighted in various statistics, asserted to show advancement of the state. One of the points in the NPF’s response included a claim that Nagaland made a so-called “quantum jump” in “impressive performance” in managing law and order affairs.
The NPF through its press secretary, Shilumar, observed as “a bit contravening” Tiameren’s “apprehension” at the functioning of political parties in Nagaland. The eight points in economic development and law and order stated by the now-Congress MLA needs to be “rectified by proper perspective” it stated.
The NPF highlighted these statistics by way of countering Tiameren: “Nagaland is the only state in the Indian union where population below poverty line is 0.00 percent…amongst the North-eastern states. Nagaland ranks number one in consumer market, number two in law and order, number three in budget and prosperity and in overall, Nagaland rank number three just behind Sikkim and Mizoram…”
The NPF further asserted that Nagaland is number two in the NE region in terms of per capita income with Rupees 27, 058 and “just behind Mizoram” in literacy with 78%. In primary education, Nagaland ranks second “way ahead” of Manipur, Meghalaya and Assam “etc.” The NPF cited these figures from a research paper, released September 2007, of Bibek Debroy, director of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of social and economic Research, New Delhi.
The figures are based and extracted from ‘National Sample Survey (NSS) 2004-2005’ the NPF informed. The NPF also claimed that in law and order affairs, “Nagaland made a quantum jump…from number 9 in 2004 to number 3 in 2007 well ahead of Delhi, Goa, Manipur and Meghalaya…”
