NPP candidates file nominations for Meghalaya bypolls

Shillong, October 7 (PTI): Candidates of the ruling NPP, Pyniaid S Syiem and Lamphrang Blah, on Thursday filed their nominations for the by-elections to the two assembly seats in Meghalaya.

They were accompanied by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, his deputy Prestone Tynsong and minister Sniawbhalang Dhar while filing the papers for the bypolls.

Pyniaid filed his papers for the by-election to the Mawryngkneng seat, which fell vacant following the death of Congress MLA David Nongrum earlier this year.

Congress candidate of the seat Highlander Kharmalki also filed his nomination papers on Thursday.

Lamphrang is the NNP candidate in the Mawphlang seat, which fell vacant with the death of Independent MLA SK Sunn.

Voters of the two seats in the Khasi Jaintia Hills region, and Rajabala constituency in the Garo Hills region will exercise their franchise on October 30.

The votes will be counted on November 2. PTI JOP
