NPP strengthens footprint in Karbi Anglong; opens office, merges with People’s Party

Diphu, December 8 (MExN): The National People’s Party (NPP) today said that its footprint in Karbi Anglong would be further strengthened with the opening of its first office in Diphu on December 7 as well as the merger with the People’s Party (PP).

The people of Karbi Anglong have always been very close to the fraternity of NPP and with the establishment of the office, the vision of  Late  Purno Sangma to work for the people of Karbi Anglong and boost the development of the region has been started, maintained a press released from NPP’s Media & Communication Cell. 

In his distinguished years as a politician, Late Sangma always advocated for the rights of the indigenous tribal communities and focused on northeast centric policies, it said. 

“It is this vision that we will uphold and work closely with the people of the region to bring in not only the protection of culture, identity and language but also economic development, development of infrastructure and youth empowerment,” it added. 

The NPP’s vision has also received further boost with the merger with PP, the party said, adding that it is a testament to its “commitment to the core ideology and stand of the party in having a diverse representation from different backgrounds and tribes of the North East to be a unified force for the region.”

PP’s President, Rajen Timung will further “strengthen our footprint in the region as he brings with him experience and knowledge of the issues affecting the region,” the NPP added. 

The NPP also instituted an ad hoc committee for the districts of Karbi  Anglong and Dima Hasao to work towards inclusive development of the people. 

This committee will work closely in consultation with the people of the region to develop road maps and plans to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, it said. 

Meanwhile, the Party also to reiterated its commitment to the long-standing demand of the people of Karbi Anglong for the creation of an autonomous state.

“We feel that such a move will empower the people to come up with different solutions for their long-pending problems.” 

The NPP further argued that for too long, the powers that be in Delhi, take “decisions for the so-called welfare of the Northeastern states, without involving major stakeholders and proper public consultation about issues affecting the people of the region.”

In this connection, it maintained that by the “virtue being a homegrown party,” NPP understand that “understands the pulse of the people of the region.” 

Stating that the Party has actively voiced the concerns of the Northeast in Parliament, the NPP expressed optimism that a new era focusing on “development, jobs and economic growth in the area” would be ushered in with the support of the people of Karbi Anglong.
