The Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress conducted a workshop on anti corruption cum kick off ceremony for Clean Election campaign at Congress Bhavan on November 25 last under the banner “Clean election: Youth for change and save Nagaland.”
Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee President K. Therie addressing the kick off function said, majority of the voters in the state lie in the age group of 18 to 40, therefore if the youth can voice out and be the strong force of clean election for a change by avoiding proxy voting and malpractice, Nagaland will see a new ray of hope for better governance and development.
He said the state government has no human resource policy for the employment of youth in general, while the central government has a policy to employ at least 10,000 youth per day across the country but state government policy for creating employment opportunity is 0.00%.
The president further highlighting the corruption of the state government said the present government is a “partyless government”, functioning without political objective and vision for the people, but just to loot the state exchequer for their personal gain and not for development. He also stated that the vision 2030 document by the present state government is a flip flop document because nothing has been implemented by the state government so far.
Therie also stated if the present trend of corruption is to be continued by the same government for the next five year, he would retire from his political career.
Supporting the clean election movement initiated by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council, the NPCC President viewed that there are more than 1800 churches in the state including all the denomination, and expressed optimism that 15 to 20%, of voters will be impacted if all the church workers decided to go for clean election. “That will be the greatest achievement and it will bring changes for the future,” he maintained.
Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress President Vilhousielie Kengurusie while delivering the keynote address said that the achievement of the present state government can be noted down on a single page but added that not even a thousand pages would be enough to note down the failures.
The public, he viewed, are equally responsible for the failure of the state government as they demand money during elections. In this regard, the public cannot go against the government, he stated.
Therefore, he urged the youth, especially the educated community, to strive for clean election so that the rest of society can be influenced.
Pointing to the frequent protests and agitations in the state, the NPYC President insisted that corruption in the state is at its highest level. Towards this, he called on the youth in general to be more wise in selecting their political leaders.
DCC urges Therie to contest from Dimapur
Meanwhile, Congress Party officials from Dimapur comprising of DCC Dimapur, ACCCs, DMCC, AMCC, DDYC & Minority Cell called on K. Therie, President NPCC on November 27 at Dimapur, to discuss the upcoming 2018 State General Election.
The total negligence of the Dimapur District leading to the pathetic conditions brought about by present NPF led DAN Government and negligence by Representatives of the District were some issues deliberated during the meeting, a press release from Dietho Rhakho, President, DCC Dimapur informed.
Despite being the main commercial hub and gateway connecting the mainland, the district has been ignored leading to poor condition of electricity, eroded roads, heavy flooding of certain areas, collapsed bridges, degrading economy and commerce and constant threats by anti-social elements.
“Therefore in order to safeguard the citizens of Dimapur, the need is urgently felt to elect strong representatives, who have clear vision to bring back importance & development to Dimapur District,” the DCC President stated and requested K. Therie to consider contesting from Dimapur District. “The DDCC will take every steps to make sure that he is elected for the welfare of the Dimapur District,” it added.
