Nagaland Rural Bank, Purana Bazar Branch conducted a Financial Literacy Camp (FLC) at Naharbari village, Dimapur on March 21. The camp was part of a series of FLCs to be conducted by the NRB supported by the NABARD under the Financial Inclusion Fund.
The primary objective of the camp, which was attended by Naharbari residents, is to sensitise citizens on the benefits of banking and the various financial services (assistance) provided by the banks.
Senior Manager, NRB, Aokeyi Ao stated that the NRB as a financial institution is to reach out to people and its activities are at par with other nationalised banks. While highlighting the various schemes of the NRB, he urged citizens to come forward and avail its services. He also highlighted the various Central government sponsored life insurance and pension schemes such as the PMSBY, PMJJBY, APY and other credit facilities, which people can avail, including SHGs. These schemes can be availed through banks.
The NRB offers an array of deposit schemes such as savings accounts, recurring deposits, special term deposits etc. its loan schemes include Kisan Credit Cards, Agri. Term Loan, SHG-Credit Linkage, personal loan and car loans. “Different priority sector lending as per the Government of India / NARARD guidelines has already been launched and we are regularly financing to the deserving entrepreneurs.”
Working in close liaison with its sponsor State Bank of India, the NRB besides its primary banking services encourages the formation of Farmers Clubs and Self Help Groups by way of credit linkage specially is rural and semi-rural and even unbanked areas.
While informing of the NRB’s fully computerised facility with Core Banking solution, it was added that plans are afoot to open more NRB branches in blocks and district not covered thus far. It was further informed that the next FLC will be organised at Burma Camp on March 23.
