As part of the ongoing training and showcasing solar energy under Suryamitra programme sponsored by Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, New Delhi, the state’s department of New & Renewable Energy (NRE) today showcased and briefed the trainers and students on Solar Radiation Resource Assessment (SRRA) Station, installed at Capital Convention Centre and maintained by the department.

With a view to spread awareness on usefulness of solar energy, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy is conducting trainings throughout the country while in Nagaland the department of NRE is conducting a three months training in collaboration with Suryamitra Hyderabad.

SRRA is for the measurement of complete solar and meteorological parameters (to identify the solar potential areas across the country.

SRRA project envisages assessment and quantification of solar radiation, data processing, quality of data, modeling and making of solar atlas of the country, besides the collection and analysis of solar and meteorological data, crucial for planning and implementation of solar power plant.

The data is collected every second and transmitted to central server Chennai.

As per the MoU between “Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET), Chennai of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, and BIT, Deoghar Campus, the Solar Radiation Resource Assessment (SRRA) station has been installed across the country.

NRE director Er. T.S. Angami told The Morung Express that SRAA station collects data of sun, air, its direction, temperature etc. on daily basis.

He said that this is very important for installation of mega solar projects, adding that without information of this data, nobody will come and invest in Nagaland.

The director emphasized on the importance to using renewable energy, especially solar energy, which is abundant.

He said that fossil fuels used for generating energy are non-renewable and very soon it will run out, besides fossil fuels are dangerous as it emits Carbon Dioxid, Carbon Monoxide and Gree House Gas, which are resulting in climate change and global warming.

The director therefore said use of solar energy is the best and most efficient form of generating power.

The programme also witnessed exhibition of a new apparatus “Air Water Generator “, which is the first and the only one owned by state’s NRE department so far.

AWG is a machine which condenses air into water through the available humidity within an installed room. It provides pure form of drinking water for direct consumption.
