NSCB Mkg launches nine Farmers Club

Dimapur | May 18 : With an aim to promote farmers and their agricultural production, the Nagaland State Co-operative Bank Mokokchung Branch (NSCB) sponsored by the National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) inaugurated a base level training programme of farmers club and launched nine farmers club in Mokokchung district here today at Longkumer Kilem, Mokokchung.
Altogether sixty one farmers from different villages under Mokokchung attended the launching programme. A brochure handed to the media by an NSCB official listed the importance of forming farmers club and how it is beneficial to the farmers. It stated that the Farmer’s Club is an informal forum in the villages, and can be promoted in a village or cluster of villages generally in the Operational Area of a Bank. The minimum number of members should be ten and there should be two office bearers – a Chief Coordinator and Associate Coordinator. The functions of the Farmers Club is to coordinate with banks to ensure credit flow among its members and forge better bank borrow relationship; liaison with corporate input suppliers to purchase bulk inputs on behalf of members. The Farmer’s Club can also organize or facilitate joint activities like value addition, processing, collective purchase of inputs and farm produce marketing etc. it can also undertake socio-economic developmental activities like community works, education, health, environment and natural resource management etc and market rural produce and products. Forming Farmer’s Club, according to the NSCB brochure, is necessary since there is a need to improve productivity and cut down on costs by improving efficiency to ensure sustained growth in agriculture. Farmer’s Club can help in materializing the urgent need to provide package of initiatives for transfer of technology, improving input use efficiency, promoting investments in agriculture both in private and in public sectors and creating a favorable and enabling economic environment. Besides, Farmer’s Club can also help in the filling the gap in the emerging needs in agriculture sector like skill and knowledge based technologies, promoting  greater value addition to agricultural produce, forging new partnership between public institutions, harnessing IT more effectively etc.
The nine farmers club launched today would be given loans and subsidies through the two financial institutions. However, the credit must be used in accordance with the most suitable methods of science and technology, and the terms and conditions of credit must be fully respected by the Farmer’s Club.  The nine Farmer’s Club (FC) launched today are: Susumang FC of Longsa village, Nechilong FC of Chuchuyimpang, Zusener FC of Settsu, Jangjang FC of Longmisa, Ongpang FC of Kubza, Amomi FC of Chungtia, Ongra FC of Mopungchuket, Menjangyong FC of Mangmetong, Khensa FC of Khensa village.
