Dimapur, July 26 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) has strongly condemned the alleged raid carried out by the Assam Rifles at the residence of Joseph Thongthong, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Education on July 24.
A press release from the MIP, NSCN (IM) stated that while the Cease Fire Ground Rules Review Meeting between the NSCN and Government of India took place on June 7, the raid took place “even before the ink dries up." "The Indian Security Forces has once again shown its true color by raiding the private residence of Joseph Thongthong, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Education, in the early morning of July 24 between 3.30 am to 4.17 am at Diphubar B Khel,” it added.
According to the release the 32nd Assam Rifles personnel who came along with masked men and two women army personnel and a Nagaland Policeman from the West Police Station entered the compound by climbing over the fencing wall with their ladder and “forcefully ransacked the house despite knowing the identity of the home owner."
“However, no incriminating documents could be found by the marauding team,” it said.
They frisked the women and the children too leaving them with a sense of insecurity, the release maintained.
Further it stated that “while the Indo-Naga peace talk is going on in New Delhi at the highest level, it is very insensitive on the part of the Indian Security Forces, for which we strongly condemn and questions again the illogical conduct of the Indian Army when the Nagas are expecting the fruition of the peace talk.”
