Dimapur, Oct 15 (MExN): The NSCN-IM’s Deputy Secretary of Tatar Hoho, P Hopeson was killed around 5:30 pm at Chekiye-B village today by unidentified gunmen suspected to be from the NSCN-K. Police sources said that Hopeson was shot at point-blank range through his left ear. According to sources, the gunmen had gone in search of one Major Sorei.
However, on finding him not at home, they threatened his wife and smashed up some household items before going in search for the Deputy Secretary. Reports said that Hopeson was about to have dinner with his family when the gunmen came. They shot Hopeson in front of his family members, sources said.
Meanwhile unconfirmed reports said NSCN-K cadres today harassed a student of autonomous Patkai Christian College believing him to be from the Tangkhul community. The student had gone to respond to call of nature when the cadres accosted and asked him is he was a Tangkhul.
The student was found to be Meitei, so he was let off. PCC students are in a grip of terror, sources said. Also, additional sources said that suspected NSCN-K cadres conducted frisking of vehicles and persons in and around Kukidolong. The frisking started around noon till evening. Sources said that ‘politicians including the Congress are in the know of the matter’.
