Dimapur, August 11 (MExN): Any settlement of the Indo-Naga issue will be based on the historical and political rights of the Nagas. Hukavi Yepthomi, Kilo Kilonser of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (NSCN-IM), stated this during a consultative meeting with the Nagaland Gaon Buras Federation (NGBF) and its district units at Hotel Saramati on Friday, August 10.
“The solution to the ongoing peace talk, which the Nagas patiently await, is the only way to settle the Indo-Naga issue,” stated Yepthomi while recalling how the ceasefire between NSCN (IM) and Government of India came to be in August 1997 during the leadership of IK Gujral and how in 2002 AB Vajpayee declared the unique history of the Nagas in India’s Independence Day Prime Ministerial speech in 2005.
This was informed in a press release issued today by the MIP, NSCN (IM).
Shalem Konyak, President of the NGBF expressed that Naga leaders and followers must unite to fight for the common cause, and extended their support to the Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015. He hoped for an early solution to the Indo-Naga conflict. The NGBF President also said that they will “come to the aid of the revolutionaries even if the road is less travelled or difficult to cross,” stated the press release.
Shikuto Zalipu, General Secretary of the NGBF, thanked the GPRN for “rendering their invaluable service and sacrifices made thus far for the Naga nation.” According to the MIP press release, Zalipu endorsed the NSCN (IM) to “wage political war while they look after the domestic affairs.” He assured that the GBs are ready to respond to the call of the nation at any time and place.
Mr. Rh. Raising, Convener, Steering Committee, said the sovereignty of the Nagas has “never been compromised," and they will "never betray the people’s trust and aspiration.” The NSCN (IM), he said, as per the press release, survived the “harsh attempt of the adversaries to annihilate the Naga political movement because our movement is a principle and issue backed by the Gaon Buras besides the benevolent Almighty’s will.”
The press release further informed that Lieut. Gen. Anthony Shimray, Longvibu, Naga Army & Political Commissar to the Collective Leadership, conveyed that “God has blessed our land and it is the fundamental rights of the Nagas to protect and secure the land.”
He said the Nagas must "cling to God as He is the only one who can give us what is rightfully ours.”
“Nagalim does not belong to the Nagas, but to God, and the Nagas are the caretakers of the land. In order to safeguard the God given land, both the Naga denizens and the NSCN needs a workable coordination. If God is with us and we are in Him, everything shall come to pass,” Shimray maintained.
