NSCN Khaplang asks IGAR to recall Maj. Varun

NSCN/GPRN asks IGAR to recall Maj. Varun, company commander of the 32nd Assam Rifles at Athibung. The AR stationed at Athibung led by so-called Major Varun is causing consternation due to his arrogance and ignorant misconducts against the inmates of Athibung designated camp. It may be mentioned here that on 24th January, the Naga army personnel in civil attire without arms, after acquiring permission from CFSB to procure daily provisions from Athibung town market, were sent back to the camp without any valid reason.

When Maj Varun was told that they had permission from the CFSB and that his CO, Col Khaptial had also been intimated already, he threateningly commented that he does not listen or take orders either from his CO or the CFSB. Further, the same day, Maj Varun went on to threaten even the shopkeepers in Athibung town to stop selling any commodities to the Naga Army or face dire consequences. On several occasions lately, Maj. Varun confiscated several basic necessities including medicines, first aid kits and other essential items that were being sent to the camp inmates.

Under the pretext of giving protection to the designated camp, Maj. Varun has become a violent rogue and is imposing curfew in and around the designated camp, thus causing deprivation of even the basic amenities to the NSCN/GPRN cadres. It may also be mentioned that on Wednesday, the Kuki Inpi leaders and public leaders of Athibung area, when asked to receive the mortal remains of the slain cadre, were not even allowed to do so. Taking all these into count, the NSCN/GPRN feels that a young ignorant soldier from the metropolis or mainland India who is completely reckless and insensitive to the Indo-Naga peace process and particularly the NSCN/GPRN-GOI political process should be recalled back to the barracks so as to restore confidence and normalcy.

MIP,  NSCN/GPRN
