DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 10 (MExN): The NSCN (R) today condemned a raid carried out by the Assam Rifles in the residence of N. Kitovi, who is heading six Naga National Political Groups ( NNPGs) on the evening of September 5. A press note from the MIP of the NSCN (R) cautioned that the AR action could become a road block for peaceful solution to the Naga issue. “The 5th Assam Rifles must reveal to both India and the Nagas of what objectionable things (materials) they found in our leaders house,” it said. It further asked the AR to explain as to who had authorized them to “humiliate the Naga leader” and said that the AR “cannot justify their uncivilized action by explaining the draconian law (AFSPA) because our leader is well –protected under Ceasefire mechanism.” While the Government of India is trying its best to resolve the long standing political issue with the Nagas, its security forces continue to provoke the peaceful atmosphere in Naga country which is not only objectionable but also undesirable at this crucial juncture, the NSCN (R) lamented. The NSCN (R) further condemned what it termed was the “brutal action” of security forces, pointing to the killing of four Naga Army cadres in Arunachal Pradesh on July 6. It further claimed that “the Naga Army was attacked by Indian security forces in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh” on August 28. “Do Indian security forces consider Nagas as their number one enemy? Nagas are not Indian enemy as we have never created any problem in Indian mainland like Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkatta etc. We are only defending our nation from Indian invasion,” it stated. “In spite of such brutal actions,” the NSCN (R) stated that the Naga Army “refrains from retaliating because the Nagas want peaceful solution.” It however asserted that “nothing can wipe out the spirit of Naga revolutionary forces.” “If GoI is serious to resolve the conflict with the Nagas, the time has dawned for GoI to ask Assam Rifles and its security forces as to why their actions on the Nagas go beyond its limit because the situation is always provoked only by Indian security forces,” the NSCN (R) stated.
