NSCN/GPRN condemns news reportage

The NSCN condemns the reportage of Sangai dated 30-Jan 2011 titled “NSCN-IM on ‘poll rampage” (http://www.thesangaiexpress.com/sangai-express-news.php?newsid=12761). We contest in the strongest term the wild allegations and consider it a weak attempt to drag us into the present election scenario in Manipur by painting a rogue picture on the organization.

In the first place it is pertinent to note that the Government of India’s policy of militarization had provoked and created an explosive situation in Manipur. In the name of democracy and security certain political parties have been given free rein through the free and blatant use of the government’s security forces and consequently, the people in general are intimidated, lives threatened and the exercise their free democratic human rights suffocated.

The NSCN therefore, will not take any unjustifiable accusations lightly and we remind all as to who are responsible in the first place for all the election excesses that have led to the misuse and abuse of power, manhandling  and killings of innocents in the poll at Chandel Tamenglong and other areas: (http://www.thesangaiexpress.com/sangai-express-news.php?newsid=12749 -“Candidate alleges excess”) (http://www.morungexpress.com/frontpage/75785.html - TN Manen, NPF workers detained-) (http://www.thesangaiexpress.com/sangai-express-news.php?newsid=12717-Presiding Officer among seven killed in poll violence) (Fear shrouds elections in Manipur http://www.morungexpress.com/frontpage/75913.html)

The NSCN stands to protect our people’s inherent human right to live as one people with dignity and honour under one political roof. We stand for issue based politics and will not remain silent spectator if our people’s democracy and human rights are seriously challenged. We are for peaceful solution of all issues however; it should not be treated as a sign for weakness. If any Naga is actively involved in working against our own people’s interest it should be condemned and termed as anti-Naga. We stand by the wish of the Naga people.

The elections and the actors involved are all part of the larger picture of states intrusion into our whole social, economic and political fabric. Hence, it would be wise also for the responsible Press and Media to know the real triggering factor behind all the violence in our society. It would be prudent not to parrot and support the well orchestrated policies of the entrenched structuralized state violence in our society through a one-dimensional reportage. We are for our people and we will stand with, by and for them to the end in exercising their inherent human rights. Kuknalim.
