Calls for strict enforcement of POSH Act
KOHIMA, APRIL 23 (MExN): The Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) has strongly condemned the recent incidents of violence against women in the state, which it said reflect a deeply concerning trend in our society.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commission highlighted two separate cases of assault- the physical attack on a nurse by a patient attendant at Tseminyu on April 18 and an earlier incident involving the assault of a female employee at Moon Bakery by the proprietor on April 16 near Zion Hospital.
The NSCW expressed concern over what it described as a rise in cases of violence and harassment against women, particularly in professional settings. It stated that such acts not only violate individual rights but also threaten the safety and dignity of women in public and work environments.
The Commission urged all District Administrations and law enforcement agencies to strictly enforce the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (commonly known as the POSH Act). It also called for 100% compliance with the Act’s mandate that requires all workplaces with more than 10 employees—whether in the government or private sector—to constitute Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs).
The NSCW reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for safer spaces for women and ensuring justice in cases involving violence or harassment.
