DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 22 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) today conducted an earthquake evacuation drill and Mithun Caravan at Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School Kohima on September 22.
As part of the drill, at around 10:30 am, the emergency siren was sounded prompting a scramble in every classroom. The class teachers relieved them of their discomfiture and evacuated them to the safe zones outside the school building through the escape routes which have been prepared since 2014 by the school authority.
Later, ‘Mithun Caravan’ was conducted, which is a replica of the Japanese school safety programme ‘Iza Kaeru Cavaran’ and first of its kind in the country to the school children. It is a recreational game but also educational as it creates awareness among the students on how to respond to disasters through the game, informed a press note from the NSDMA. This concept was introduced to the state by Jonjibemo Odyuo, SRRO and Thejangulie Zao, DDMO Kohima who had attended one and half month course during October and November 2016 on Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction at the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), Kobe, Japan.
