The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) today visited and met officials of the Department of Information Technology & Technical Education where it was ‘confirmed’ that successful candidate Niuto S Chishi was deprived of merit-earned MBBS seat in the recent Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE), which was allegedly given away to a lower-ranked candidate. Relative  to the matter, the family of Chishi has decided to file a suit against the IT&TE department for its alleged indulgence in corrupt practices, sources informed.

“We have contacted the department where we found that the deserving candidate was deprived of his rightful MBBS seat. It was confirmed today after going through documents. The Government now has to clarify to the people”, NSF President Pushika Aomi said adding that the Federation was waiting what next step the government would take. “Complaint was received from the candidate and it was confirmed that he was deprived of his seat and his seat given to other candidates. We could not contact the Minister since he is out of station. Justice has to be delivered”, Aomi said adding that the Federation was closely following the developments.

Meanwhile, according to latest information Niuto S Chishi’s family has decided to file a case against the government of Nagaland and the IT&TE Department for the malpractice where merit-candidate Chishi was denied a seat for MBBS course while a lower-ranked candidates allegedly a son of Education Minister Imkong Imchen, was given the seat. It may be mentioned here that according to the merit-list of JEE 2006, Niuto S Chishi secured 126.50 marks and was ranked 27th in the merit list and thereby making himself qualified for an MBBS berth. However it was alleged by that a son of Minister Imchen, Sentikumba Imchen secured only 59.50 marks and ranked 464th accordingly yet was given an MBBS seat against Chishi’s.  Interestingly, additional sources informed that another candidate identified as Akhovi Pase, ranked 627th in the results with total mark percentage of 50.5 was also given an MBBS berth.

Neither the Minister nor department officials could be contacted for comment. Quite surprisingly, Dr SC Deorani, Principal Secretary (ST, IT & TE) when contacted said he was not aware of the selection procedures involved and that selectors of the JEE Selection Board as well as the Controller of Examinations be contacted regarding the matter.
