Mokokchung | June 22 : As part of their goodwill tour phase one, a delegation of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) led by their president Kelhouneizo Yhome today held a meeting with Ao Naga frontal organizations at the AKM Conference Hall today. The meeting was attended by Ao Senden Officials, Watsü Mungdang, All Ward Union Mokokchung, Ao Senden Literature Board, executives and seniors of the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) and intellectuals.
The meeting, chaired by NSF president Kelhouneizo Yhome at AKM conference hall discussed several issues pertaining to reformation of education system in Nagaland, Socio-economic issue, government job reservation policies and menace of illegal immigration and the Naga political issue.
During the course of discussion on the agenda put forward by the NSF, Ao Senden Literature Board President, Prof. Lanunungsang highlighted the present education scenario and said that there is a need for revision of syllabi in the lower section according to the needs of present context. He also rued about the government’s negligence in distribution of school text books in all the government run schools.
On the topic of the Naga Political issue, NSF president inquired about Ao Senden’s stand on the issue, to which the President of Ao Senden, Lendinoktang stated, “We are curious to know what is going on at the negotiation table, and we feel that it is our birth right to know what is resolved.” On the question of Ao Senden’s ‘mandate’ to the Isaak-Muivah led NSCN, Lendinoktang clarified that the Ao Senden believes in arriving at a negotiated settlement but added that the Ao Senden could withdraw its ‘mandate’. “Ao Senden have given a kind of mandate, not that Ao Senden supports IM but Ao Senden believes without a talk or negotiation, no solution could be arrived at.” Quite interestingly, the Ao Senden president also added, “Inclusivity … thus we gave our mandate yet it is not perpetual.” On the issue of Frontier Nagaland state demand, Ao Senden said that if the eastern Nagas want to part ways, then they cannot be stopped yet they can go without exploiting the present Nagaland. “Why don’t they join NSF or Naga Hoho,” the Ao Senden rather questioned.
On the issue of job reservation, Ao Kaketshir Mungdang Vice President, Nathan Ozükum said that AKM is very serious about the present government job reservation issue and asked NSF to take appropriate measures to sort out differences within Naga community. AKM also said that the reservation policy vertically divides the whole Naga family. The Ao Students’ Conference in the meeting made its stand clear that the conference is “very serious on the issue of reservation of government jobs in the state.”
In response the NSF President stated that “NSF is pressuring the Government of Nagaland for total revision of government job reservation policies and also urging the concerned for Area wise reservation as against Tribal wise reservation.”
The meeting also discussed at length the issue of the shifting demography of Nagaland due to unabated influx illegal immigrants mostly from Bangladesh, Natural resources and several other important issues. NSF officials will be holding up at Mokokchung at Hotel Metsüben. Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Lithrongla G Chishi will be reportedly hosting breakfast for the NSF delegates on June 22nd morning.
