KOHIMA, JANUARY 12 (MExN): Demanding repealing of the Central rule imposed in Nagaland, Naga Student’s Federation (NSF) today said that PR at this juncture would empower the Indian military and paramilitary to commit atrocities. The federation expressed resentment at the imposition of central rule in Nagaland at a time when the federation was continuously struggling against any kind of policy that injures the sentiments of the people, such as Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 (AFSPA) (as amended in 1972 and 1986), Disturbed Areas Act, Prevention of Terrorism (POT) Act etc.
The NSF added that these policies which are totally against the very articulate provisions of the Indian Constitution and fundamental rights of the citizen, cannot be tolerated by the people. As such the NSF president, Imchatoba said that imposition of President Rule (PR) at this juncture will “aggravate and empowered the Indian military and paramilitary with unlimited supremacy to extent their evil claws and judicial impunity to arrest, torture, kill and to commit everything inhuman.”
On the background of the ongoing political talks and the peace process between Government of India and Nagas, the Naga Students’ Federation said that any policy that harms the atmosphere of trust and confidence is a direct infringement to the people’s sentiments and a threat to the peaceful atmosphere prevalent during the ongoing period of ceasefire.
The NSF demanded that the President Rule in Nagaland be repealed summarily at the earliest.
