Dimapur, Nov 8 (MExN): The Naga Students Federation (NSF) today, in a representation submitted to the Nagaland University asked the Vice Chancellor of NU to immediately shift the VC’s office from Kohima to Lumami Campus and at the same time demanded the establishment of an engineering college in the state.
This representation letter was signed jointly by the NSF President, V Pushika Aomi and General Secretary, K Elu Ndang which was also made available to the media stated that the demand for shifting the University’s Head Quarter from the State Capital to Lumami Campus was resolved during the Federation’s fourth Federal Assembly where it was unanimously resolved to urge the concerned authority to immediately shift the Vice Chancellor’s office of the Nagaland University to its Head Quarter at Lumami Campus and endorsed the Executive Council to take up the matter to fulfill the demand of the students’ community.
The NSF reminded the Vice Chancellor that right from day one of the inception of Nagaland University in 1994, the Vice Chancellor has been stationing in NU Kohima Campus, instead of its rightful place at Lumami Campus, and that because of it many reports of malpractices came which consequently led to many untoward incidents in Nagaland University. Therefore, shifting of Vice Chancellor’s office to the Head Quarter has been a serious concern of the Naga Students Federation (NSF) since long, stated the Students’ Federation.
The students’ leaders alleged that shifting the Vice Chancellor’s office to the Lumami Campus, HQ of Nagaland University has been delaying due to reasons best known to the concerned authority and added that whatever the reason may be, the NSF in particular and the students community in general feels that the 15 years is long enough a time to develop the required infrastructure for stationing of Chancellor at the HQ.
Putting forth its old demand for an engineering college in the state the NSF reminded the Vice Chancellor that the University does not have a single Engineering College though it is in dire need of one in the State. The two students’ leaders reminded the VC that in April 2005, the University had received Rs 5 crore for setting up an Engineering College and Rs 2 crore for Management College under FDR and alleged that the University authority had kept that total amount in central Bank, Kohima at fixed deposit without any initiative for the purpose. They asked the University to start developing an Engineering College with that sanctioned money at hand without further delay or else the money should be refunded back to the government. The representation also pointed out the fate of the present VC’s predecessor Prof GD Sharma who was also questioned on this matter and later forced to leave University by the students’ community. The NSF expressed surprise as to why the University could not set up the project in spite of having enough land and resources at hand and asked the authority to set up the college without further exhibiting delaying tactics.
The NSF leaders also congratulated Prof Kannan for taking over the assignment as the Vice Chancellor and assured him every possible support while discharging his duties for the development and progress of the University.
