NSF unhappy with School Edu Minister over Assembly remarks

Dimapur, March 27 (MExN): A perceptibly infuriated Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) today lashed out at School Education Minister Nyeiwang Konyak for his comments that the federation was ‘unaware of action’ the department purportedly took to clean up the “mess” in the tainted department. In reaction, the NSF issued a press release today demanding clarification why only 580 bogus teachers were terminated while the rest of the tainted teachers remain.

In one of its strongest statements in the recent times since School Education’s fall into scams and scandals, the NSF minced no words in scoffing at the School Education minister.  “The Naga Students Federation is amused by the statement of Minister of School Education Shri. Nyeiwang Konyak on the assembly floor that the NSF was unaware of the action taken by the government with regard to the ugly mess in the education department,” the NSF press release said. “…the NSF feels that the minister must be dreaming if he was not sleeping as more than three years has elapsed since the federation has been pursuing on the scam to bring it to a close.”

The NSF has challenged the state government saying that the organization is prepared and open for discussion “on the mess” in the Education department to ascertain as to “who is not aware and who is not.”

Demanding the attention of the Education Minister, the federation has strongly questioned the responsibility of the “authority for germinating the Education system with indecisive policy.” The NSF is far aware of the misappropriation/misconduct even in the implementation of flagship programs such as SSA and RMSA in the State, the NSF said.  “The minister or any concerned officers should not take the federation’s patience for granted as it has been showing with highest concern and greatest hope to cleanse the mess without confrontation.”

In retaliation, the NSF ‘wondered’ why only 580 bogus teachers have been terminated till date. ‘…the NSF would like to know as to why termination letter cannot be issued by the department to the remaining teachers.

The NSF cannot comprehend with the idea of issuing show cause notices to those teachers who were detected for entering into service through “irregular means”. When such “illegal means” were detected, it was strong enough to immediately terminate them,’ the NSF reminded. The federation also questioned the authorities why appointment of such tainted teachers was entertained and why action was initiated to accommodate them. The government is reminded not to set up any more verification committees but take action.

Taking serious note of the irregularities and corruption taking place in the Education department and the “snail pace efforts” of the department in delivering justice, the NSF warns that its temporal suspension of agitation should not be misinterpreted by the department. The federation will be compelled to launch agitation if the government fails to implement its assurance, the NSF added. The press release was appended by NSF president Kelhouneizo Yhome and secretary for education Chipakhuyi Rhakho.
