NSF warns govt on backdoor appointments

Dimapur, July 31 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) today appealed to the government to let the lower cadres in the Government service, from Lower Divisional Assistant (LDA) and above,  be appointed through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC).  Alleging backdoor government appointments, the NSF said that it is dismayed by the lack of concern shown by the government towards the matter and strongly warned that any lackadaisical response from the government would compel the Federation to take the matter to the streets to uphold justice.

A letter to the chief Secretary of the Government of Nagaland by the NSF today pointed out that the NSF is constrained to put the requisitioning of government cadres from Lower Division Assistant (LDA) and above to the NPSC, after due consideration of the increasing plight of unemployed youths in the state and also because of ‘back door’ appointment effected by people at the helm of Government affairs.

“Many of the department officials, hand in glove with politician have been making random appointment without the least concern for efficiency and competency of the candidates, most of which resulting out if vacancies due to retirements, promotions and etc, without requisitioning the (vacant) post to the Government recruitment agency i.e. NPSC,” the NSF alleged.

The NSF also alleged that some departments have been rampantly appointing first class gazette officers on ad-hoc or contract basis, in violation of all laid down appointment norms and procedures of the state machinery.

The NSF said that the Federation is prepared to furnish circumstantial evidence on these, if desired.

The NSF said that it has been concerning itself to the recruitment system of the government and added that it is perpetually reminding the government to requisition all available posts to the NPSC in order ‘to create efficiency space for the educated youths to compete fairly’.
