NSF writes to Ibobi, ‘relaxing’ blockade on cards

Dimapur, June 9 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation today officially wrote to Chief Minister of Manipur O. Ibobi Singh stating to ‘consider’ relaxing the economic blockade imposed on all Manipur-bound vehicles, but “within a short period of time.” A copy of the NSF’s letter addressed to the chief minister of Manipur was received here today.

It is understood from the contents of the NSF’s letter that the Manipur government had earlier written to the NSF and had expressed “regret” for the “inconvenience” caused to NSF leaders on May 3 at Mao Gate. On May 3, NSF leaders traveling to Oinam village in Manipur for the organization’s federal assembly were refused entry by Manipur police personnel at Mao Gate, two days before the tragic May 6 killings that left two dead and scores injured in police firing.

“While acknowledging your Chief Secretary letter dated 5th June 2010, conveying your regret for the inconvenience caused to the NSF official on 3rd May 2010 at Mao Gate. The Federation would like to appraise your goodwill, that though the NSF is not fully convinced with the content of the letter, the NSF taking into consideration of the appeal made by various organizations, we shall consider relaxing the ongoing agitation within a short period of time,” the NSF said.

The NSF has however said that its stance remains unchanged. “The principle stand of the NSF which was stated in our earlier ultimatum shall still stand. Which the imposition of section 144 CrPC in all the Naga inhabited areas should be revoke, and as such any unwarranted force meted upon the Naga students leaders or its people in Naga inhabited area shall not be compromised. The NSF shall stand to protect the inherit right of our people at any cost,” the organization added.
