Wokha, October 19 (MExN): The Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC) Chairman, Justice Songkhupchung Serto, along with NSHRC Member and Secretary, recently led an official team to Bhandari Sub-Division on October 18.
The visit was part of their ongoing tour to assess the implementation of various welfare schemes linked to human rights, focusing on healthcare, education, and food security, stated a DIPR report.
The NSHRC, an independent statutory body established under the Protection of Human Rights Act 1993, is mandated to protect, promote, and prevent violations of human rights. Their ongoing tour aims to collect firsthand knowledge and insights to improve the implementation of these schemes for the welfare of the people of Nagaland. The Commission is actively encouraging individuals aggrieved by human rights violations to file complaints, both online and in writing, for prompt and effective redressal, it added.
During a meeting held at the Government Higher Secondary School Bhandari, Justice Serto emphasised the pivotal role of teachers in society. He credited teachers for nurturing students who go on to achieve great heights in life. “Teachers play an essential role in transforming society,” he remarked, encouraging students to be proactive and focused in their studies.
“Learn something every day and never leave without gaining knowledge,” Justice Serto advised, encouraging students to make a name for themselves. The official team also had interactive sessions with the teachers, further underscoring the significance of education in societal progress.
The NSHRC team also engaged with the Administration, the Department of Civil Supplies, and the local GBs in Bhandari. Additionally, they visited the PHC Bhandari, inspecting various facilities and gathering insights into the challenges faced by stakeholders in the implementation of welfare schemes.
On October 17, the NSHRC team visited Liphayan, Ronsuyan, New Ralan, and Yimpha villages, extending their efforts to assess the grassroots impact of these schemes.
