DIMAPUR, JUNE 29 (MExN): The Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) had a joint meeting with the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu in Kohima on June 29 and reminded him of the previous memorandum that was submitted to the former Chief Minister demanding the setting up a Government Law College and Separate High Court in the state.
A press note from the NLSA informed that the federation apprised the CM about the problem and grievances faced by the Naga Law aspirants due to the lack of a government law college in the state. It further appealed to the CM that it is imperative that the state must take note of this inequity and take immediate measures by setting up a government Law College in the state. The NLSF further reminded the CM to look into the matter of the ongoing High Court Construction at Meriema as Nagaland is yet to have an independent and separate High Court.
“Absence of a fully functioning independent High Court is adversely affecting the effective delivery of justice to the citizens apart from the fact that it also reflects badly on the state concerned. It is, therefore, of utmost importance that our state must have its own High Court and the State government must not compromise on this issue,” the federation said.
The CM reportedly assured that he would refer the matter to the Higher Education Department for setting up of Government Law College and do the needful action at the earliest. He also expressed that it is high time for Nagaland to have a separate High Court and informed the federation that he would look into this matter seriously and take the necessary action.
