Kohima, October 23 (MExN): Justice LS Jamir, Judge, Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench and Executive Chairman, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) inspected district courts of Wokha, Mokokchung and Longleng in addition to assessment of District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) performance on October 18 and 19.
Justice LS Jamir was accompanied by Y. Longkumer, Registrar, Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench and Nino Iralu, Member Secretary, NSLSA and Special Judge TDP Vigilance Commission.
During the two-day inspection, Justice LS Jamir asked the Chairmen, Secretaries, Panel Lawyers and Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of DLSAs to set up legal literacy club in schools and colleges by getting the involvement of the authorities and lecturers as PLVs. Such legal literacy club, he said, will be effective in reaching out to the people.
The Executive Chairman further urged to focus on rehabilitation while rendering legal services to the common people. He congratulated the DLSAs for systematic maintenance of the front office and for providing legal services.
Nino Iralu pointed out that a lot of work has been done on prevention and told to shift focus on rehabilitative aspect of legal service. She therefore urged the DLSAs to streamline activities in line with the ten National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) scheme 2015 and 2016 with focus on the unorganized sector and public utility services.
While inspecting the Legal Aid Clinic at Ungma and Fazl Ali College Mokokchung, PLVs of Mokokchung DLSA apprised about their performances, such as filling up of scholarship forms, Aadhaar correction, bank account opening, sensitizing on constitutional rights and provisions, collecting names of disabled persons etc.
