The Nagaland State Transports (NST) has prescribed a maximum speed limit of 30 km/hr for hilly terrain and 60 km/hr in the plain areas.

These speed limits have been prescribed by the department according to its annual administrative report 2019-2020. It further directs against the abuse of alcohol and intoxicants by the crew of the buses, stating that the rule is enforced by enforcement officials.

The report stated that GPS Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) has been installed in the buses to monitor the movement of the buses, stoppage speed, travel time etc. and to ensure safe operation of the services and for timely rescue and maintenance.

The department implements the government policy of “No Fault Liability” under which, in times of unfortunate accidents, immediate relief is extended to effected passengers and next of kin. The reliefs include Rs. 50,000 for death, Rs 25,000 for serious injury, and Rs 10,000 for minor injury.

In the course of providing passenger transport service to the public, NST have been adjudged as winner in the category of “Hill” for Transport Minister’s Road Safety Awards 2028-19 (For lower rate of accidents) by the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU) at the International Conference and Exhibition on Public Transport Innovation (ICEPT), New Delhi on January 30, 2020.
