Chandel, June 25 (NNN): The Naga Students’ Union Chandel (NSUC) has alleged that due to lack of attention by the PHED, the people in Chandel district are facing water scarcity. The apex Naga student body of the district expressed its disappointment saying the PHED has not been doing much for the district. According to NSUC, many villages in Chandel district are buying water from private suppliers as there is water scarcity. "Augmentation of water supply scheme at Chakpikarong is not providing water to many surrounding villages namely Anal Khunou village, Y/Khutha village, Charongching village, Khuwngjol village, Tampi village, Dangkhu village, Nungpan village, Toupokpi village, Sangni village, warkhuhrin village, kanakangbung, khubungkhullen, phiran machet etc.", it pointed out, adding "So far no water meter has been installed by the concerned department". The NSUC then alleged that the PHED Chandel is not maintaining supply of water to villages till now even after numerous appeals made for adequate water supply. "Villages like Modi, Chandel Christian, Panchai, Abungnikhu, Hnatham, Japhou and many other surrounding villages are being deprived of water. Western Valley & Western Lamkang areas under Chandel block are also facing water scarcity," it claimed. It further said even the only district hospital in Chandel is not getting proper water supply. "So, to ensure adequate water supply of drinking water, installation of centrifugal pump set is required in many places of the district where water source is good," it stated. The NSUC then appealed to the authority concerned to appoint eligible EE in PHED Chandel district, adding appointment of EE in-charge PHED Chandel under the influence of influential politicians may not work good for PHED Chandel district. The NSUC said Chandel district deserved a competent, experienced and eligible EE as per service rule. "It is learnt that one centrifugal water pump is installed at Chandel district headquarters which is taken on credit from Thoubal district", the NSUC also said. Meanwhile, it appealed to the State government to immediately initiate concrete step to solve the problem to prevent outbreak of major water scarcity in Chandel.
