Nagaland University (NU) Chancellor Prof. D.N. Buragohain today visited NU Kohima Campus, Meriema and acquainted himself with the function and the atmosphere of the campus.
Prof. D.N. Buragohain has created a history today for being the first chancellor to have visited NU Kohima Campus in 18 years time since the establishment of the Nagaland University in 1994. Interacting with the heads of departments, deans, professors and other officers in the presence of vice chancellor Prof. B.K. Konwar and pro-vice chancellor Prof. A. Lanunungsang, the chancellor urged upon them to prioritise their works and address the same accordingly on phase wise manner. Prof. Buragohain also stressed on the need to set top priority work for each and every department. He continued that the goal has to be clear for progress and prosperity of the University. NU vice chancellor Prof. Konwar also emphasized on the need to have proper plan for developmental activities so that everything would become harmonious and easier for implementation. The chancellor visited the departments of Tenyidie, History & Archaeology, Commerce, English, Geology and Education. He also paid a visit to classrooms of different departments, ladies common room which was sponsored by University Grants Commission, developmental activities in the Kohima Campus, Meriema.
Later, the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor planted a tree each in the campus. The chancellor and Vice Chancellor also visited the School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development at Medziphema. The Chancellor also got the first hand information of the progress of the University prior to 3rd Convocation to be held for the first time at Lumami on May 15, 2013 which is to be address by the President of India and Visitor of Nagaland University, Pranab Mukherjee.
The first two Convocations were held at Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima addressed by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and A.P.J. Abdul Kalam President of India on 28th October 2003 and 14th March 2007 respectively.
