NU desire better ties with American Center

Kohima, Oct 11 (MExN): Nagaland University (NU) is looking forward to build strong and better ties with the American Center, Calcutta. NU’s Registrar Thejao Vihienuo was optimistic that such environment would go a long way to promote the objectives and the activities between the university and the Center.

Inaugurating the display of American resources and services under the aegis of American Center, Public Affairs Office of American Consulate General, Calcutta at the NU Conference Hall, Vihienuo informed the gathering that it was the American missionaries who first brought education to the Nagas and even to this day Nagas remember all their ‘good deeds.’ “Our people are ever grateful to American missionaries for all good things they have done for us,”  he said. 

He also asked the students to take full advantage of the programme and interact with the visiting team. He also hoped that the exhibition and interaction would go a long way in developing better relationship between the Nagas and the Americans.

Smita Basus, Cultural Affairs Specialist American Consulate, announced that the Center would be pleased to bring some music groups to the state as well as holding a mini film festival in the state.

Earlier, Rosemary Dzuvichu, Co-ordinator Center for Mass Communication NU welcomed the attendees. Scores flocked the NU Conference Hall and obtained several books and journals free of cost. 

The programme featured an exhibition on  American life, culture, education and institutions, grants and scholarships, library services and media resources.

Films were also screened as part of the programme. Many students turned up at Congress Bhavan where Hollywood flicks like  “Death of a Salesman,” “Dr. Zhivago,” Mobydick” and documentaries such as “Searching for the roots of 9/11,” “Unelected: The Media” were being screened.  A similar programme would be held  place at Hotel Japfu Kohima from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on October 12.

Further, the American Center has teamed up with Dimapur Press Club and The Morung Express to screen films on October 13 at Highway 39 Conference Hall, Dimapur.
