Kohima, May 11 (MExN): The Department of Geology, Nagaland University, Kohima campus, donated a collection of rock and mineral specimens to the Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Nagaland, for public display at the State Museum in Kohima.
The handover ceremony took place on May 5 at the State Museum, where the samples were formally presented by Prof. Vikoleno Rino, Head of Department, along with Dr. Temsulemba Walling and other faculty members. Director of Art and Culture, Adela Moa, received the donation in the presence of senior museum officials.
The collection comprises various rock types—igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic—along with significant economic minerals such as magnetite, chromite, hematite, limestone, and coal, sourced from different locations across the state.
Expressing her appreciation, Moa lauded the department’s dedication in curating and contributing the specimens. “These samples will not only enrich our museum’s collection but also serve as an educational resource for visitors, especially students,” she said.
