Mokokchung, May 7 (MExN): The 2nd edition of the departmental newsletter MassCom Chronicle by the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication (JMC), Nagaland University, Lumami, was officially launched by Special Guest Habemo Ngullie, PEX/HOP, Akashvani Mokokchung, on May 6.

Speaking at the launch, Ngullie remarked that newsletters are more than just collections of words on paper—they are the voices of a community. In the case of MassCom Chronicle, he said, it reflects the dynamic, thoughtful, and ever-curious voices of the JMC students of NU.

He also stressed that in an age where misinformation spreads faster than facts, the role of trained communicators and ethical journalists is more important than ever.

Commending those involved in the publication, Ngullie noted that such initiatives nurture essential skills including writing, editing, design, leadership, and teamwork.

He further advised students to use their voices wisely, speak for the unheard, and never stop questioning the world around them.

Meanwhile, Prof Athungo Ovung, Head of the Department of Sociology at NU, remarked that the publication is a testament to the vibrant academic activities within the university.

It reflects the dedication, determination, and intellectual participation of both students and teachers and such initiatives provide a platform to sharpen skills and build confidence, he added.

Peter Ki, Public Relations Officer (PRO), NU, stated that the JMC department has become a human resource hub of the university, with dedicated faculty members, and encouraged everyone to continue in this spirit.

Editor and Sub-editor of MassCom Chronicle, Tiakumla and Idaizeule, shared how the project helped strengthen their editorial and teamwork skills. They credited mentors and seniors for their guidance and highlighted the newsletter’s role in reflecting both academic and campus life.

The event brought together faculty members, students, and invited guests to mark the achievement and underscore the importance of student-led media initiatives, stated a press release from the JMC.
