NUSU calls for inclusion of Nagaland in SLET Commission

Dimapur, May 9 (MExN): The Nagaland University Students’ Union, Lumami has written to the Commissioner and Secretary, Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, strongly urging for the inclusion of the Nagaland in State level eligibility test (SLET) Commission.

The content of the letter, released to the media by NUSU President X Chophika Sumi and General Secretary, Merenyanger Jamir maintained that while the Academic Registrar, Nagaland University has notified the Directorate several time regarding the issue, the Department had not acted upon the same citing that “opting for NESLET may lead to the lowering of standards in the criteria laid down for recruitment of teachers in the University and College.”

In this regard, NUSU said that this is “misconstrued notion” and opting for SLET does not mean that the particular student cannot opt for NET Examination.

“In fact, it will be a good opportunity for our students to opt for both NET and SLET which in turn will greatly help in curbing the menace of unemployment,” it argued.

The Union, thus, maintained that the inclusion of our state in the SLET commission will be beneficial for the students’ community and strongly urged the Commissioner and Secretary to look into the matter.
