NUTAK to boycott NU Foundation

Kohima, September 5 (MExN): Nagaland University, Nagaland’s highest seat of learning, has never been new to controversies of lack of co-operation; this time, with barely twenty four hours before the university celebrates its fourteen foundation day the Nagaland University Teachers Association (NUTA) has today decided to boycott the celebration of NU’s foundation day on Thursday, September 6. 

The NU Foundation Day Programme is scheduled to be held at 11:00 am at the Tenyidie department, Ura Academy Hall, Kohima with Minister for higher education and planning Dr. Shurhozelie gracing the programme. Prof. Venkatesh Athreya, Bharathidasan University, Trichinappally and Food Security Coordinator, M.S. Swaminathan Foundation, Chennai will deliver lectures on the theme “Economic reforms and agriculture”, while the welcome speech will be delivered by Prof. K. Kannan, vice chancellor, Nagaland University.

However, it remains to be seen how successful the programme would be, since NUTA, Kohima Unit has decided to boycott the function. 

NUTA Kohima president Rosemary said that it was protesting against the Vice Chancellor who had randomly violated the University Act and Ordinances and also because of the failure to redress grievances of NUTA.
