NVCO reiterates demand to set up Lokayukta

Dimapur, September 27 (MExN): The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has extended full support to ACAUT Nagaland adoption of 25th August Public Rally to demand from the Government of Nagaland to summon a special session of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) to pass the Lokayukta Bill 2017, to check all forms of corruptions, mismanagement and siphoning of public funds and immediately terminate all Back door appointments made post June 6, 2016.

NVCO President, also Convenor of ACAUT Nagaland (legal cell), Kezhokhoto Savi in a press release said that the Organisation has been urging the state government to set up Lokayukta in Nagaland for the last several years and would continue to fight for it till such time an independent powerful Lokayukta is constituted. “However, the NVCO would strongly fight against the inclusion of ‘prosecution sanction’ to Lokayukta Act as we are all aware that Nagaland State Vigilance Commission were not given an opportunity to work independently just because of the ‘prosecution sanction’ to be given by the state government,” it stated.

Highlighting on the details of Lokayukta Act, Savi stated that the main object of Lokayukta is to curb the menace of corruption providing within the State. When any individual makes a complaint against the public servant relating to corruption, mal-administration, favouritism, nepotism, etc, the Lokayukta looks into such matters and investigates and if they find out that the allegations are true, the public servant is punished. Public servants include the Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, MLA, Vice-Chancellor of Universities, Bureaucrats, Secretaries and the higher-ups of the Government department.

Lokayukta protects citizen’s right against mal-administration, corruption, delay, inefficiency, non-transparency, abuse of position, improper conduct, etc and it is representative of legislature, powerful friend of citizens, NVCO added.
