Nyamo Odyuo wins Open Air Rifle Shooting Championship

The 7th edition of Annual Open Air Rifle Shooting championship organised by the Wokha District Rifle Association was held at Likya Hall, Wokha on December 30. The programme was graced by Ex-Assistant Professor (Shooting), National Sports University ISSF D Coach and ISSF B Judge, NIS Shooting Coach & Secretary, Nagaland Shooting Sports Association (NSSA) Hito Swu as the special guest of the event. 

The event witnessed the participation of 50 skilled shooters, with M Nyamo Odyuo emerging as the winner of the championship.

 Rentsanthung Odyuo secured the second position, while Liyingbemo Kithan secured the third position. Mhonbemo Kikon and Yanrenthung Humtsoe secured the fourth and fifth position respectively. All the participants were presented with certificates.

Addressing the gathering, Hito Swu emphasised that shooting sports is a quest for perfection, excellence comprehending mental acuity, physical prowess and motor skills. Taking examples of various excellent shooters nationwide, he explained on the importance and the quality of being determined to achieve success and urged players to maintain consistency, while upholding that age has no barrier to opt shooting professionally or as a hobby.

Further, he provided technical demo on various shooting techniques and functions, safety regulations, game rules, body postures, and strategic approaches. Swu also requested the players to stay focused, be calm and composed during the championship and also encouraged the shooters to approach him and the association if they are interested in pursuing shooting as a profession.

Later, a moment of silence was observed for the former member of Wokha District Rifle Association late Yanbemo Ngullie.

The host of the programme was Leonard Mozhui. Sumit Tariyani from Crossway Church Wokha pronounced the invocation while short speech was delivered by K Libemo Jami and vote of thanks was delivered by Yampothung Jami.
