NZPO endorses NFHRCC stance, calls for strengthening of Kohima-Pedi-Peren Road

Peren, June 14 (MExN): The Nagaland Zeliang People Organisation (NZPO) today endorsed the June 7 statement by the Nagaland Foothill Road Co-ordination Committee (NFHRCC), calling upon the State Government to implement the Assembly Resolution adopted on September 22, 2022, to undertake the Foothill Road Project by the NEC (North Eastern Council) during the financial year 2023-24.

"The historical people's road from Tizit to Khelma is a long-cherished dream of every Naga citizen and one of the most urgently needed developments, connecting every district of the state without passing through other states," stated a press release from NZPO President Kevipelie Iheilung.

Writes to Project Sewak on Kohima-Pedi-Peren road
Meanwhile, the NZPO has also written to the Chief Engineer Project Sewak Dimapur, Nagaland, on June 6, calling for the strengthening of the Kohima-Pedi-Peren road between 18 to 40 kilometres and 75 to 91.38 kilometre with Dense Bituminous Concrete (DBM) and Bituminous Concrete (BC).

"For the public of Peren district, the road is the only lifeline for many villages, which hardly lasts for a few months as it was made with BC. Commuters, especially the Zeliang villagers, have been suffering for many years due to the pathetic road condition," the NZPO said.

It is evident that the distance from 18 to 40 km and 75 to 91.38 km would be surfaced with a 30 mm thickness of BC, which can hardly withstand a few months, it said.

With the increase of heavy vehicles on the road, re-surfacing with 30 mm BC will not durable, and it cannot be expected to be redone for at least 5-6 years, the organisation added.

It further pointed out that the road stretch from 6.7 to 18 kilometres has already been re-strengthened, while the portion from 40 km to 75 km is also surfaced with DBM and BC with appreciable workmanship.

In this connection, the NZPO requested the Chief Engineer Project Sewak to re-surface the entire Kohima-Pedi-Peren road with DBM and BC. (b)

"If the re-surfacing is done for name's sake, i.e., re-surfacing with a 30 mm BC thickness, the department is informed not to do the re-surfacing job," it added.
