
Dimapur, January 16 (MEXN): “We, the energy consumer have not bothered to see the scarcity of resources. Resources are running out, it has to be reserved for the human kind,” said Rusovil John, Chairman Secretary Nagaland Pollution Control Board while inaugurating the Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight 2008 at Hotel Saramati Dimapur on January 16. The OGCF awareness campaign is observed during January 15-31 organised by the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) under Indian Oil Corporate Ltd.
Rusovil said that conservation of oil and gas should start from petroleum and oil outlets. While complimenting the oil companies in conducting the Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight annually to spread awareness on this cause, Rusovil further urged them to concentrate on educating their customers to check adulteration of oil and to use the available resource judiciously.
“Alternate energy sources and also substitute to preserved fossil energy hydel, thermal power and wind energy should be seriously looked into as different sources of energy in order to endeavor development,” Rusovil added.
Earlier, Atoba Imchen Plant Manager Indian Oil Corporate Ltd (Assam Oil Division) read out the message of Murli Deora, Minister Petroleum and natural Gas GOI. “PCRA is taking small but significant steps towards fulfilling its mandate of promoting energy conservation in the country. At the beginning of OGCF-2008, I appeal to all employees of oil and gas PSUs under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to adhere to the spirit of this event through out the year,” the note stated.
Deputy Manager O. L Khozol in his short speech encouraged the oil and gas dealer present in the function to ‘impart knowledge to the customers the economic ways of using oil and also on their part to minimize wastage of oil in their business.’ Khozol also delivered the vote of thanks. The gas and oil dealers during the function took the pledge to conserve oil and gas. The campaigns designed for each target group are carried out during the fortnight. Major target groups are transport and domestic. Apart from special drives for these sectors, competition on painting, slogan and essay for school students will be also organised.
The OGCF, organised by the Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry, aims at creating mass awareness on the importance of conservation of oil and gas and protection of environment. OGCF was launched by the Government of India in 1991.
