Dimapur, Sept 26 (MExN): The NSCN-IM, peeved that the people have been kept in the dark about resumption of oil explorations by the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) in Nagaland has made clear that the reported undertaking would not be allowed without taking “necessary legal permission” and consent of the Naga people.
An MIP release stated that the reported oil explorations are questionable on its legality and “appropriateness”. Questioning if the concern involved in the operation possess proper “authentic authorization” and “legal authorities”, the NSCN-IM amply made clear that natural resources of the state of Nagaland would not be allowed to be exploited without the consent and approval of the Naga people. “It should be known that all national wealth/properties belonging to the Nagas would not be exploited or used without the consent and approval of the Nagas; if ever any such project or exploration is to be embark on, it should be in the interest, benefit, proper knowledge of all the concerned Nagas and with their permission” the MIP release stated.
Towards this, the NSCN-IM has asked the Oil companies concern to take “necessary legal permission” only then shall the explorations be allowed.
“Only after proper examination in not being cheated of our simplicity, ignorance and appropriate benefits availed impartially, authorization from the appropriate authorities that legitimately represent the Nagas will be issued and undertaking will be permitted. Any multi-national company/companies that may be intending to undertake such ventures are cautioned to take necessary legal permission prior to engaging into any venture” it warned.
“No such undertaking will be allowed to take place with the Naga people kept in the dark of its terms and conditions as well as prior to the evaluation of whether it is for the benefit and welfare of the Nagas in general” it stated adding that any such venture with ‘corrupt practices and benefits for a few vested individuals’ with the terms and conditions of contract in obscurity, thus robbing the Nagas of their common property will be objected’ to.
