Gracing the opening ceremony of Olivian Fest in Kohima, Khevitho T Shohe, former director of Social Welfare encouraged the students to discover talents and abilities during co-curricular events while comparing it to how different groups and organizations in society become better when they engage in various activities.
The three-day Olivian Fest organised by Mount Olive College, Kohima held under the theme, ‘Harmonising arts, igniting passion’ began on November 8.
Referring to events like Olivian Fest, he said these activities were valuable for growth of individuals to contribute to society.
Shohe added that informal gatherings are a great way for students to take a break from their regular classes and relax. ‘Not only bookish knowledge or doing well in academics was the only way to succeed,’ he said and encouraged the students to explore opportunities to express themselves in different ways.
Speaking about one’s talent and gifts, Shohe said students can excel in areas like music, dance, cooking, storytelling, or humor, which can be the foundation of their careers.
He also mentioned that people have different callings in life, and students should try to use their talents to reach higher levels and see if others appreciate what they have to offer.
Mount Olive College, Principal, Swedezhono Tsükrü acknowledged the response from the student, faculty members and governing body of the institute is making the event possible to conduct the three-day celebration in a grand manner while updating the line-up for the remaining two days.
Events of the inaugural programme included ethnic cuisine display, indigenous games and cosplay contest. Both past and present students presented songs.
Earlier, Tokheni Sema, Vice Principal, Mount Olive College hoisted the Olivian Fest flag, Khekavi Yeptho, pastor of Sümi Baptist Church, Kohima invoked God's blessings. The programme was chaired by Dr Lipoktoshi, Assistant Professor, Commerce and Vetoli H Chophy offered the benediction.
The Olivian Fest will conclude with Literature and Alumni Meet, debate and extempore speech including Olivians Got Talent followed by the Olivian Feast on Friday.
