Dimapur, August 26 (MExN): On August 25, 2011 at 5:00 am the 24th Assam rifles while conducting Motor Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) at general area Burma Camp, Dimapur intercepted one Wokha bound Bolero vehicle bearing registration No. NL-07-8727, carrying 34 cases of assorted contraband liquor. Superintendent of Excise & Prohibition, Dimapur, Pitongse Sangtam, stated that in this connection, one R.Nchumthung Kikon, 32 years, resident of Wokha town was arrested and handed over to the Excise & Prohibition, Dimapur office later along with the seized articles for further investigation.
The note also mentioned that basing on the report of the Investigating Officer, the accused person was penalized as per the relevant sections of the NLTP Act 1989 and the contraband items confiscated and deposited in the Excise Malkhana. In this regard, the vigilant action of the 24th Assam Rifles in intercepting the contraband liquor and handing over the case to the concern department for persecuting legal action is appreciated.
