‘One Government, One tax’ Chümoukedima orgs reaffirm

Dimapur, April 3 (MExN): Following a joint meeting on April 1, the Naga Tribal Union Chümoukedima Town (NTUCT) along with civil society organisations (CSOs) and Chümoukedima Chambers of Commerce and Traders Union (CCCTU) reaffirmed its stance for ‘One government, one tax.’

In a press release received on Saturday, NTUCT President Lhousito Khro and Joint Secretary Aolemba Longkumer stated that the joint meeting discussed on the issue of ‘rampant taxation’ in and around Chümoukedima and reaffirmed the resolution adopted on February 13, 2014 by the citizens of Chümoukedima.

“Hence, any sort of taxation from the various Naga political groups will not be allowed within Chümoukedima jurisdiction. It has also reiterated that actions will be taken as per the 2014 resolution among the business community whoever violates it,” the release stated.

The release stated that the members present in the meeting acknowledged the struggles faced by the different political groups for the freedom movement. “However, it was noted that the random and rampant taxation from the various political groups is only killing the aspirations of the people and impacting heavily on the economy of the people,” it pointed out.

The meeting was attended by Chümoukedima Chambers of Commerce and Traders Union, Timber Association CMD, Sand Stockists and Supplier’s Union CMD, Boulder Union CMD, Chümoukedima Town Angami Mechu Krotho, Head G.B CMD town, Chümoukedima A Village and the officials of the NTUCT, it added.
