Only 12% of SHGs in Nagaland credit linked

State level sensitization workshop discusses  credit linkage for SHGs

Dimapur, February 11 (MExN):  The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Nagaland Regional Office organized a ‘State level Sensitization Workshop on SHG/JLG Financing for Bankers’ on February 10 at Tourist Lodge, Dimapur.

L Leivang (GM/OIC, NABARD) pointed out that though the first Self Help Group (SHG) in Nagaland was formed in 1999 and 17,623 SHGs are savings linked up to September 2020, only 12% at 2133 SHGs are credit linked at Rs 29.22 crore.

She called for action by all banks to bridge the 88% funding gap and that SHGs’ total savings, through hard thrift, at Rs 18.13 crore in banks needs to be matched with sanction of loans.

Rollan Lotha shared the efforts made by NSRLM to make their SHG members credit-worthy and urged banks for credit linkage of SHGs under SRLM from the status of just 1175 SHGs in the last 9 years.

Hembram spoke on the scope of financing SHGs/JLGs and urged banks to finance eligible SHGs as part of priority sector lending.

Bendangnungsang Ao, GM, NStCB shared NStCB’s good practices as NABARD’s Self Help Promoting Institution (SHPI) in credit linking 544 SHGs with loan of Rs 11 crore in 2019-20.

Tuny, ABH of Bandhan Bank spoke on their micro-finance activities in Dimapur.

Lanchibeno Thopoe of MEWS, Wokha shared the success story of their SHGs nurtured with NABARD’s support.

With repeat loans from Central Bank of India and NStCB Ltd, Wokha branch, Senjuma SHG has a piggery unit producing 120 piglets annually since 2019 while Tongphi SHG is making natural soap varieties under the ‘Tongphi’ brand sold in Nagaland, TRIFED (New Delhi), North East Foundation (Guwahati) and on Amazon. 

 K Chang of ECS, Tuensang briefed on digitization of SHG database on NABARD’s EShakti portal in which, u to date data on 320 SHGs of Tuensang and Kiphire are available for bankers’ ease in making their credit decision.
