Piphema, February 11 (MExN): Modern College, Piphema, on February 10 organised an Open 10K Mini Marathon as part of Modern Week 2026, with the aim of promoting health, fitness and community participation.
Held under the motto “Run for Good Health,” the event witnessed participation from students, faculty members and members of the local community.
The marathon was conducted between 7:00 am and 9:00 am, featuring two categories—10 km for men and 10 km for women.
The designated route stretched from Dairy Farm Point (Modern College, Piphema) to Cultural Hall, Piphema (A), and back to Dairy Farm Point.
A total of 50 participants took part in the mini marathon.
Lieutenant Colonel Sanjeev Kumar, Second-in-Command, 78th Battalion CRPF, Zubza, attended the event as the special guest. Medical assistance, including ambulance support, was provided to ensure the smooth conduct of the race.
In the men’s 10 km category, Wede T Mero secured first place, followed by Shiangjiu T in second place and Tali Yanger in third.
In the women’s 10 km category, Tsuchoi T finished first, while Songmo P and Niansai T secured second and third places respectively.
The winners received cash prizes of Rs 10,000 for first place, Rs 7,000 for second place and Rs 5,000 for third place respectively.
The organisers stated that the marathon was aimed at encouraging a healthy lifestyle and fostering community engagement through sports and fitness activities.
Following the mini marathon, the college is set to hosting a series of literary, cultural and sports events as part of Modern Week from February 10 to 14.
As per a press release from the college, the literary day will feature competitions such as quizzes, poetry slams and singing while cultural day will showcase folk songs and dances, an ethnic fusion show, and traditional games including fire saw making, human centipede race, five stones, war cry and pork-eating contests.
A three-day sports meet featuring basketball, football, volleyball, shot put, track events and other games will conclude the Modern Week celebrations.
