KIPHIRE, July 31 (MExN): Phase one of 'Operation Good Samaritan', a mass campaign against drug abuse by involving community participation was successfully launched in Kiphire district

The operation was a concept conceived by SP Kiphire, K Swarnambika, IPS. This is the first of a kind initiative in the entire country for having police-public collaboration to go for door to door campaign against drug abuse under the concept of 'Nasha Mukth Bharat Abhiyan,' informed a press release from the Kiphire SP. Around 150 volunteers from Kiphire Headquarters and 80 volunteers from Pungro Sub-division took part in the programme along with Kiphire police.

During the flagging off ceremony in Kiphire Head Quarters, the Kiphire SP expressed her appreciation to the volunteer squads for enthusiastically taking part in the programme. She said that young generations are assets of society and if they are strong, the family prospers. “If the family prospers, the community prospers. If the community prospers, the state prospers. If the state prospers, the entire nation prospers. Any attempt to destabilize the younger generation by the drug mafia should be nipped down in the budding stage itself by having mass outreach awareness campaign,” she stated. She also sought the cooperation of the volunteer squads to make a 'Drug free Kiphire'.

While addressing the volunteers in Pungro Sub-division, Additional SP, Lanu Aier, NPS hailed the launch of 'Operation Good Samaritan' as a proud moment.

The flagging off was parallely launched in Kiphire Headquarters by the Kiphire SP and in Pungro Sub-division by the Additional SP. After the flagging off, volunteer squads split into teams. Along with Kiphire police, they marched to different wards in Kiphire and Pungro towns simultaneously and carried out door to door campaign against drug abuse and distributed pamphlets to each household prepared by the Anti Narcotic Task Force of Kiphire police. After the campaign, the volunteer squads reassembled for the valedictory session.

Participation Certificates were distributed to all the volunteers. During the feedback session, one of the volunteers appreciated the concept of 'Operation Good Samaritan' and expressed his gratitude for being given an opportunity to involve in mass campaigning against drug abuse.

Another volunteer expressed that she received very positive response from the public and shared that some households were asking for the OST (Opioid Substitution Therapy) contact details to enroll their family members who are drug consumers.

Another volunteer said that being impressed by 'Operation Good Samaritan,' he is going to register a society for creating drug awarness. The Kiphire SP expressed her thanks to the volunteers and the entire Kiphire Police for making the programme successful.
