Kohima, January 22 (DIPR): In view of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly Elections, 2018 and in accordance with the guidelines issued by ECI regarding preventive action to ensure conduct of peaceful, free and fair poll during the elections, and for preservation of public peace and safety, the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, as District Magistrate, Kohima has issued an Order on Prohibition of carrying licensed arms/weapons within the jurisdiction of Kohima district by the powers conferred upon him under section 144(A) of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973.
Carrying of licensed arms for the purpose of verification at the nearest police station or deposit of the same and for uploading in the NDAL database has however been exempted from the purview of this order. This order will be enforce with immediate effect till the completion of the above said elections.
The word “arms” shall have the meaning assigned to it in section 153AA of Indian Penal Code, 1860.
Also, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, has directed all arms license holders under Kohima District to produce their arms license for verification at the nearest Police Station on or before 3rd February, 2018 in view of the General Assembly Election to be held on February 27.
Failing to produce the license for verification within the stipulated time will result in cancellation of license (s) as per appropriate section of law and impounding of arms and penal action will be initiated against the defaulting person(s). This Notification has been issued in continuation to the office order NO.DCK/ADC/GE/2017-18/209 Dated Kohima the 18th December, 2017.
The ADC & DEO Pughoboto has issued a similar directive informing that in view of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly Election 2018 and in accordance with the guidelines issued by the ECI regarding preventive action to ensure conduct of peaceful, free and fair poll during the elections and preservation of public peace and safety, the carrying of Licensed arms/weapons within the jurisdiction of Pughoboto Sub-Division is prohibited by the power conferred upon the above concern authority under Section 144 (A) of the Criminal Procedure Code,1973 However, carrying of licensed arms for the purpose of verification at the nearest police station or depositing of the same and for uploading in the NDAL database is exempted from the purview of this order.
