Kohima, July 28 (MExN): The Kohima Organic Outlet located at Themezie along High School–New Secretariat road was inaugurated by Joint Director & District Agriculture Officer (DAO) of Kohima, Vizonyu Lezie on July 27.
An initiative of Kohima District Organic Farmers Producer Organisation supported by the Department of Agriculture under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCD NER), the outlet will function as a platform for the district organic farmers to promote and sell their organic produce.
A press release from Mhasikhotuo Mere, Agriculture Officer-II, Kohima informed that Kohima DAO, Vizonyu Lezie encouraged the organic farmers to utilize the outlet properly for better marketing and promotion of their organic produce through the Kohima District Organic FPO.
Lezie further stressed that the importance of consuming clean organic food is ever increasing as many of the food products available in the market are mixed with harmful chemicals, which are invisible to the naked eye but very harmful for health.
“Choosing organic food is not only good for one’s health but also promotes our local farmers,” the DAO stated, adding the potential of organic farming in the district is huge and will not only boost the local economy but also provide future scope of exporting to other metropolitan cities.
Certified organic vegetables, fruits, spices etc will be available in the organic outlet, the release said.
